Fionn MacCool's Irish Pub and Restaurant
Date of Visit: February 11, 2026

We have eaten at a lot of restaurants, and we can tell you this with complete confidence, Fionn MacCool’s Irish Pub and Restaurant is not just another place to grab a bite in Ponte Vedra. It is a restaurant with a personality, a pulse, and a loyal community built around it. The kind of place where regulars are not just customers, they are part of the rhythm of the room.
When we visited on February 11, 2026 at 4:30 PM, we were excited because we have enjoyed their lunch specials before and even attended a whiskey tasting there, but we had never sat down for the full dinner experience. This time, we came in ready to explore the menu properly, and we left already planning what we want to order next time.
One of our favorite moments of the night had nothing to do with a plate, at least not directly. We watched Paul, the owner, greeting regulars by name, and Susan said it felt like “Cheers,” that comfortable, familiar energy where everyone seems to belong. That feeling is hard to manufacture, and impossible to fake for long. It is earned.
Ambiance and Décor
Walking into Fionn’s feels like stepping into an old New York Irish pub, warm wood, timeworn details, and a layout that encourages conversation. The space is only about five years old, but it feels older in the best way, like it has been there forever.
Paul shared a story we loved, he once traveled to Kansas because he heard an old Irish pub was closing and its fixtures were being auctioned. He wanted pieces that carried Irish history, and he brought that character back with him. That is not just a fun anecdote, it explains why the room feels authentic. The woodwork has presence. The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable, and the staff’s classic Irish attire adds to the theme in a way that feels natural, not theatrical.
This is the kind of place that works equally well for a casual weekday meal, a meet up with friends, or a relaxed date night where you want good food without feeling rushed.

Menu and Drinks
If you are looking for authentic Irish comfort food, the menu reads like a wish list. It is extensive, with plenty of sandwiches, wraps, and pub favorites, plus the Irish staples that matter when you are judging an Irish kitchen. Also, the bar is serious, 36 beers on tap, plus what they call the best whiskey and Scotch selection around. Even if you are not a whiskey expert, you will feel like you are in the right place to become one.

Food Quality
We love when a meal builds momentum, and this one absolutely did.
Onion Rings (Best of the Best)
These were the first “wow” of the night, partly because they are enormous, and partly because they are actually good enough to deserve the size. Fresh cut, hand battered, crisp, and flavorful. We are awarding these the Best of the Best Onion Rings, and we do not do that lightly. In fact, we are calling it out because it is rare for us to say a restaurant has the best version of something we thought another local favorite owned.
Reuben Spring Rolls
This is the kind of menu item that makes you smile before you even take a bite, and then the bite makes you even happier. Tender corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, rolled and fried into a golden, crunchy starter that still tastes like a Reuben, just in a more fun, snackable form. If you want one “must order” appetizer, we would point you here.
Shepherd’s Pie (Best of the Best Dish)
We have tried shepherd’s pie across the country, and we mean that literally, and this one is the best we have had. It is not just tasty, it is thoughtfully executed. The plating is genuinely striking, with the portion presented in a way that feels like a little culinary showpiece. But the real reason it wins is the substance. The crust is light and flaky, and the filling is balanced and satisfying without feeling heavy. The detail that makes us respect it even more is that they use lamb, which is the authentic choice that too many restaurants skip in favor of ground beef. It matters. That decision alone tells you the kitchen cares about getting it right.
Because this dish is both rare in its authenticity and memorable in execution, we are awarding it Best of the Best Dish, and we fully stand behind that.
Irish Boxty, Ha Penny Bridge
Boxty is one of those dishes that instantly makes the meal feel more culturally rooted, and we loved that Fionn’s offers it. The Ha Penny Bridge variation is a folded potato pancake filled with tender corned beef and buttered cabbage in a creamy mustard sauce. It practically melted in our mouths, comfort food with a little elegance hiding in the sauce.
Pecan Bourbon Salmon
Susan is a true salmon judge, and she was very happy here. The salmon came with creamy parmesan risotto and roasted summer vegetables, and the dish felt like a smart option for anyone wanting something a little lighter without sacrificing flavor. We also liked that it expands the restaurant’s range. This is an Irish pub, yes, but it is also a place where you can bring someone who wants a “health conscious” dinner and still both leave satisfied.
Irish Whiskey Cake (Dessert)
This dessert is their Irish twist on rum cake, and it is a fun finale. Light, fluffy cake basted with Irish whiskey, heated before serving, then finished with an Irish whiskey and orange syrup. Warm, aromatic, and just indulgent enough to feel like a proper ending to a pub dinner.

Service
Service here is one of the reasons it feels like a favorite table. Whether you sit at the bar or at a table, the team is fast, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. You can tell the staff has been there for years, and that kind of stability usually shows up as confidence, smooth pacing, and a relaxed dining experience. A well run restaurant has a certain calm, and Fionn’s has it.

Value and Pricing
The lunch specials are some of the best in town, both in variety and portion size, and dinner value is just as strong. We left with enough leftovers for the next night, which is always a great sign when the quality is high. Value is not just about low prices, it is about feeling like what you received matched or exceeded what you paid. We absolutely felt that here.

Overall Experience
Fionn MacCool’s is one of our Favorite Tables Around Town, and for us, that phrase means something very specific. It means we would bring friends here without hesitation. It means we trust the kitchen. It means we know we will leave happy.
It also means the restaurant plays a role in the community. In a fast paced world, a place where the owner is present, where staff recognizes regulars, and where the atmosphere encourages you to slow down is rare. We value that, and we think Ponte Vedra does too, based on how many familiar faces walked in while we were dining.
