Hangar One Bistro Eatery & Bar
We love when a restaurant surprises us.
For over two years we drove past the St. Augustine airport countless times without realizing that inside sat Hangar One Bistro Eatery & Bar, a colorful aviation inspired dining experience with direct runway views. When we finally stopped in one evening for what we thought would be a quick cocktail, we stumbled into something much more memorable.
Some places feel discovered.
This felt uncovered.
Ambiance and Décor
Hangar One fully embraces its aviation identity. The moment we walked in, we were greeted with a lively bar scene, bright colors, and thematic details that clearly celebrate its airport location. Large windows overlook the runway, offering diners an uninterrupted view of planes taking off and landing.
Watching a private jet taxi while sipping a cocktail adds a sense of excitement you simply do not find elsewhere in town.
The bar itself is impressive, well stocked and visually inviting. The space balances casual comfort with a slightly elevated polish. It feels like a private aviation lounge that welcomes the community.

Menu & Drinks
At the time of our visit, the menu leaned heavily Polish under the current ownership. We were told there is an ownership transition underway, and the menu may evolve in the near future.
While we only intended to enjoy drinks, one item immediately captured our attention: pierogi.
When we learned they were handmade by the owner’s mother, we knew we had to order them. Authentic family recipes often tell a deeper story than any menu description ever could.
Our cocktails were well executed, and we were pleased to see craft ice used, a detail that reflects pride in beverage presentation. Even a simple drink feels more refined when attention is paid to temperature, dilution, and visual appeal.

Food Quality
We only sampled one dish during this visit, but what a dish it was.
The pierogi arrived tender and perfectly prepared. The dough was delicate without being fragile. The filling was seasoned beautifully, balanced, and comforting. Each bite felt intentional and authentic.
We have enjoyed pierogi in many places, but these stood out because they felt personal. You can taste when something is handmade with tradition behind it.
Without hesitation, we awarded this dish our Best of the Best.
We do not give that distinction lightly. It is reserved for dishes that rise above the expected, that leave a lasting impression. These pierogi did exactly that.
We will return for a broader tasting once the new menu is established, but based on this experience alone, the kitchen has demonstrated strong capability.

Service
The service was excellent. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming.
We were stopping in briefly yet never felt rushed. The staff was happy to share details about the menu, the ownership transition, and the story behind the pierogi. That level of engagement enhances the overall experience.

Value and Pricing
Given the unique setting, quality of food, and overall experience, pricing felt fair and appropriate. This is not simply paying for a meal. You are paying for atmosphere, location, and craftsmanship.

Overall Experience
What makes Hangar One special is the combination of elements. Aviation views. Handmade heritage recipes. Friendly service. Craft cocktails.
It feels like a destination without feeling exclusive.
We also appreciate that this is the kind of place you could bring out of town guests. Watching planes land while enjoying drinks creates instant conversation.
We sincerely hope the new ownership recognizes the value of what already works, especially those pierogis.
We will absolutely return, both to enjoy the runway view again and to see how the next chapter unfolds.
