Wayne Newton at Ponte Vedra Concert Hall

Some performances entertain.
Others stay with you.

Our evening with Wayne Newton at Ponte Vedra Concert Hall was not just a concert. It was a journey through decades of music, storytelling, and living history, all delivered in a setting that felt personal, intimate, and unexpectedly powerful.

Susan and we spend a fair amount of time in Las Vegas, and for years we had tried to see Wayne Newton without success. So when we learned that “Mr. Las Vegas” himself would be performing right here in Ponte Vedra Beach, we knew immediately this was an opportunity we were not going to miss.

We arrived early, something we always recommend for events like this, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions of the night. Being among the first to enter gave us a chance to take in the full character of Ponte Vedra Concert Hall. Built from the foundation of a historic church, the venue blends a sense of history with modern performance design. There is something special about that combination. It feels rooted, yet elevated.

We made our way to the bar, ordered drinks, and picked up a few small plates before heading out to the patio. Watching the crowd arrive became part of the experience. There was a sense of anticipation in the air. Conversations, smiles, people sharing stories about seeing Wayne years ago or finally getting the chance tonight. You could feel it building.

Inside, our seats placed us just four rows from the stage, directly centered. In a venue like this, there truly is not a bad seat in the house, but being that close added another layer of connection.

From the moment the show began, it was clear this was not going to be a typical concert.

Wayne Newton does not simply perform. He tells his story.

Through a thoughtful blend of live performance and video storytelling, he brought the audience along on a journey through his life and career. One of the most touching moments for us was hearing about his relationship with Jack Benny. Known as one of the kindest figures in entertainment, Benny’s influence on Wayne’s early career added a level of depth and authenticity to the evening that you rarely see in live performances today.

The show also introduced us to a dynamic we did not expect. His co host for the evening was his wife, Kathleen McCrone, and their chemistry was undeniable. Married for over 30 years, their interaction on stage added warmth, humor, and a genuine sense of partnership that elevated the entire experience.

At 84 years old, Wayne Newton remains an extraordinary performer. Self taught on multiple instruments and still fully engaged with his audience, his presence is both commanding and approachable. The crowd responded with enthusiasm throughout the night, creating an energy that felt both celebratory and deeply appreciative.

What made this evening truly special was the storytelling.

Hearing about his early days performing multiple shows a day in Las Vegas, then driving to Los Angeles for rehearsals that never seemed to happen, and the stories behind moments like filming Vegas Vacation, added a layer of personality that transformed the event into something far more memorable than a traditional concert.

Weeks later, we still find ourselves recalling those stories.

That is the mark of a truly successful event.

The Ponte Vedra Concert Hall itself deserves recognition. The venue’s design, flexibility, and community driven mission create an environment where performances feel intimate and meaningful. Managed by SJC Cultural Events, the space plays a significant role in bringing high caliber entertainment to the area while maintaining a strong connection to the local community.

We are awarding this evening our On the Guest List Signature Moment Distinction for its ability to blend performance, storytelling, and personal connection into a truly memorable experience.

Overall Experience

If you have the opportunity to see Wayne Newton live, we highly recommend it. Not just for the music, but for the stories, the history, and the feeling of being part of something special.

And as for Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, we will absolutely be back.
