Every so often, we walk into a restaurant expecting a pleasant neighborhood meal and leave talking about the details that made it far more memorable than expected. That was our experience at Amore Mio Italian Pizzeria. Located along County Road 210 in St. Johns, Amore Mio is the kind of local restaurant that does not need an oversized dining room or an elaborate concept to make an impression. Its appeal comes from something much more important: a clear commitment to making familiar Italian food with care. The dough is handcrafted, the sauce is made in house, the ingredients taste fresh, and the restaurant feels comfortable from the moment you settle in. We have always believed that pizza is one of the best tests of a kitchen. There is nowhere for poor technique to hide. The crust, sauce, cheese, seasoning, and bake all have to work together. At Amore Mio, that foundation was strong enough to carry two very different pizzas, and it gave us a new local option that we would happily recommend to friends looking for a relaxed dinner near County Road 210.

Ambiance and Décor

7/10

Amore Mio has the comfortable, personal feeling of a true neighborhood pizzeria. The dining room is modest in size, but that works in its favor. It feels approachable rather than formal, and it is easy to picture families coming in after a busy day, neighbors meeting for dinner, or a couple sharing pizza and a bottle of wine on a casual date night. The restaurant does not try to compete with highly designed destination dining rooms. Instead, it creates a setting where the food and the people take center stage. The atmosphere is warm, unpretentious, and relaxed. We never felt rushed, and the smaller space helped make the experience feel more personal. For us, this is a restaurant where comfort matters more than spectacle. It is not dining with a view or a special-occasion room, but it is exactly the kind of place people return to because it feels familiar and easy.

Menu and Drinks

7/10

The menu centers on Italian favorites, with pizza clearly serving as the main attraction. There is enough variety to satisfy someone who wants a traditional pie as well as a guest looking for salads or a more substantial Italian meal. What stood out to us was that the menu did not feel needlessly complicated. The restaurant knows what it does well and keeps the focus there. One of the most distinctive features is the BYOB policy. Because Amore Mio does not have a liquor license, guests may bring their own wine or beer. We found that to be a practical and enjoyable option. It lets diners choose a favorite bottle, makes a casual dinner feel more personal, and can keep the overall cost of the evening under control. For local guests planning a relaxed pizza night, the BYOB format is worth knowing before arrival. Bring a wine you already enjoy, order a couple of pizzas for the table, and the experience immediately feels like an easy neighborhood gathering.

Food Quality

9/10

The food is where Amore Mio made its strongest impression. The kitchen understands that excellent pizza begins long before the toppings are added. Dough, sauce, seasoning, and bake quality created a consistent foundation throughout the meal. Caprese Salad We began with the Caprese Salad, a simple combination that depends entirely on ingredient quality. Fresh tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, and basil delivered the clean, familiar flavors we hoped for. It was refreshing, balanced, and a fitting way to begin an Italian meal without overwhelming the palate before the pizza arrived. Caesar Salad The Caesar Salad offered crisp romaine and a dressing that was flavorful without becoming heavy or overpowering. It provided a second fresh starting point and showed that the restaurant pays attention to the supporting dishes, not only the pizzas. Margherita Pizza The Margherita Pizza was an excellent showcase for the restaurant’s fundamentals. Fresh tomatoes, mozzarella, and house-made sauce were balanced so that no single ingredient dominated the pie. The result was uncomplicated in the best possible way. Every component had a purpose, and the simplicity allowed the quality of the dough and sauce to come through. Peter especially appreciated how the pizza stayed true to the spirit of a Margherita. It did not rely on excessive toppings or heavy seasoning. It was satisfying because the basics were handled correctly, which is harder to accomplish than many people realize. Supreme Pizza The Supreme Pizza became Susan’s favorite of the evening. It arrived with generous toppings, including olives and onions, but the detail that truly distinguished it was the garlic-seasoned crust. The thin crust baked crisp and carried a subtle garlic flavor that added character to every bite without overpowering the toppings. Susan loved the generous amount of olives. Peter would personally prefer a slightly lighter hand with them, but that difference made the pizza part of the fun. For diners who love olives, this is an easy recommendation. More importantly, both of us agreed that the crust was the memorable feature and one of the strongest reasons to return. Across both pizzas, the recurring strengths were clear: well-made dough, flavorful house-made sauce, a crisp bake, and toppings that felt intentional. When a pizzeria gets the foundation right, the entire menu benefits.

Service

8/10

Service throughout our visit was friendly, attentive, and professional. We were welcomed warmly, our questions were answered, and the pace of the meal allowed us to enjoy each course without feeling hurried. That relaxed rhythm fit the neighborhood atmosphere perfectly. The best casual restaurants often make service feel natural rather than scripted. That was the case here. The staff helped create an experience that was comfortable and easy, which is exactly what we want from a local pizzeria.

Value and Pricing

8/10

Amore Mio delivers strong value for the quality and craftsmanship involved. Handmade dough, house-made sauce, fresh ingredients, generous toppings, and satisfying portions create an experience that exceeds what many diners expect from a neighborhood pizza stop. The BYOB policy adds another layer of value, especially for couples or groups who would normally purchase wine or beer with dinner. Guests can bring something they already enjoy and put more of the dining budget toward the food. This is not value based on being the cheapest option. It is value based on receiving food that tastes carefully prepared at a price point that still works for a casual family meal or date night.

Overall Experience

9/10

What stayed with us most was the authenticity of the experience. Amore Mio seems to understand exactly what it wants to be: a welcoming neighborhood Italian pizzeria serving well-made food without unnecessary complication. We enjoyed the freshness of the salads, the balance of the Margherita Pizza, and the personality of the Supreme Pizza’s garlic-seasoned crust. We also appreciated the relaxed service and the flexibility of bringing our own wine or beer. Together, those details made the evening feel personal and genuine. This earned our Unexpected Find designation because the quality of the pizza, especially the dough, sauce, and garlic-seasoned crust, surpassed what someone might expect from a small neighborhood location. It is the kind of discovery that makes us want to tell local friends, while secretly hoping it remains easy to get a table.
