Jacksonville Wine Festival
The Jacksonville Wine Festival was amazing and truly exceeded our expectations. Susan and I were very happy to be invited to attend. Since it was our first time going, we didn’t really know what to expect, but it turned out to be one of the nicest events we’ve attended in a long time. The food was fabulous, the vendors were wonderful, and the music created a great atmosphere throughout the evening. We tried just about everything they had to offer, and there were several standout restaurants that we plan to write individual reviews about. The event was very well attended, and it was clear the organizers did a phenomenal job promoting it. The location was excellent as well. At first I was a little surprised that it was held underneath the highway overpass, but it actually worked out perfectly. It helped keep the temperature comfortable and provided protection in case of bad weather. Overall, this was a fantastic event and we would give it an A+. Hats off to everyone who helped put it together. It was very well done, and we are already looking forward to attending again next year. Menu & Drinks Some of the stand outs for us were: Gator Ice Cream Delivers a Sweet Surprise at the Jacksonville Wine Festival Every now and then we discover something at a festival that completely stops us in our tracks. At the Jacksonville Wine Festival this year, that discovery came in the form of a simple scoop of ice cream that quickly became one of the highlights of the entire event. Tucked among the wine tastings and festival vendors was Gator Ice Cream, a Jacksonville Beach favorite known for their homemade approach to frozen desserts. Festival crowds were buzzing around the stand, and after one look at the rich, creamy scoops being served, we knew we had to see what the excitement was about. What we did not expect was that we would end up going back for seconds. We started with their Cookie Butter Ice Cream, a flavor that instantly caught our attention. Cookie butter is one of those indulgent ingredients that can easily overpower a dessert if it is not handled carefully. In this case, the balance was absolutely perfect. The first bite told the story. The ice cream was incredibly smooth and creamy with a richness that only truly homemade ice cream seems to achieve. The cookie butter flavor was deep and comforting with subtle caramelized spice notes that reminded us of warm cookies fresh from the oven. It had just the right amount of sweetness without becoming heavy, which made each bite even more enjoyable than the last. At a busy event like the Jacksonville Wine Festival, desserts can sometimes feel like an afterthought. Not here. This scoop felt crafted with care. As we stood there enjoying it, we watched the team behind the counter moving quickly through the crowd with smiles and great energy. Their enthusiasm added to the entire experience and made the stop feel even more welcoming. Festival environments can get hectic, yet their team managed to keep things moving while still being friendly and engaging with customers. The setting itself certainly helped create the moment. The Jacksonville Wine Festival always brings together great food, great drinks, and a lively crowd, and enjoying a scoop of ice cream in the middle of that atmosphere made the experience feel even more special. Sometimes the simplest pleasures are the most memorable. After finishing the first scoop, we looked at each other and laughed because we both knew exactly what was about to happen next. We went back for another. That second visit confirmed what we already suspected. Gator Ice Cream was not just a fun festival treat, it was genuinely outstanding ice cream. If you ever spot Gator Ice Cream at a local event or find yourself near their Jacksonville Beach location, we strongly recommend stopping for a scoop. Whether you are strolling through a festival or just looking for the perfect sweet ending to your day, this is exactly the kind of dessert worth seeking out. Sometimes the best moments at a festival are not the ones you planned. Sometimes they come in the form of a perfect scoop of ice cream. Aqua Grill, Ponte Vedra Beach Sometimes the most memorable restaurant discoveries happen when you least expect them. For us, that moment came while wandering through the Jacksonville Wine Festival. As we made our way from booth to booth sampling wines and small bites from local chefs, one particular dish stopped us in our tracks. It was bold, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. The booth belonged to Aqua Grill, a restaurant located in Ponte Vedra Beach that many locals have suggested we should visit. After that bite, we immediately understood why. The Dish That Made Us Stop The star of the moment was Spicy Ahi Tuna Tartare served on crisp wonton chips. This dish was everything we hope to find when chefs are showcasing their work at a festival. Fresh ahi tuna was finely diced and lightly seasoned with a spicy kick that brought just the right amount of heat without overpowering the delicate flavor of the fish. The tuna was cool and silky, balanced perfectly by the crunch of the wonton chips beneath it. The contrast in textures made every bite satisfying. The wonton chips delivered that golden crisp snap, while the tartare melted on the palate with clean ocean freshness. The spice lingered just enough to make you want another bite. And another. It was the kind of small plate that instantly makes you curious about the rest of the menu. A Restaurant That Has Been On Our Radar Aqua Grill is located in Ponte Vedra Beach, not far from where we live Their menu is described as multi ethnic and ingredient driven, focusing on fresh local products prepared to order. The restaurant also offers a lakefront setting, a lively bar, and a covered outdoor deck that overlooks the water. We have heard about Aqua Grill many times from friends and readers who suggested that it might deserve consideration as one of our Favorite Tables Around Town. After tasting that tuna tartare, it quickly moved to the top of our list of places to visit. Why First Impressions Matter Food festivals offer a unique glimpse into a restaurant's philosophy. Chefs usually choose dishes that represent their style and standards because they know those bites will form someone’s first impression. If the Spicy Ahi Tuna Tartare is any indication of the quality coming from the kitchen at Aqua Grill, we suspect there is much more waiting to be discovered. Fresh seafood, thoughtful flavor balance, and a presentation that makes you stop and take notice are all promising signs. What Happens Next This was our first taste of Aqua Grill, but it certainly will not be our last.
