Wayne Newton Concert at Ponte Vedra Concert Hall

Ponte Vedra Concert Hall was built with a modern, historical twist. Constructed from the foundation of an old Baptist church in 2011, the renovation and repurpose of the sacred space led to the creation of a flexible entertainment venue. In its 13-year history, Susan and I are regulally in las vegas on business and over the years we have tried unsuccessfully to see the King of Vegas Wayne Newton so when I heard that he was coming to ponte vedra concert hall we could not pass up the opportunity. We arrived early and were some of the first people to go into the hall and it was great as it gave us the opportunity to see the entre lower level, we made it to the bar and ordered a drink and something to eat once we placed the order we went outside to the patip and found a seat and enjoyed watching people filter in and the excitement grew. We enjoyed our food and then went insdee and found that our seats were in the middle of stage 4th row. The show nothing less that fantastic, the way that he combined his story using vidoes was like taking a trip down memory lane with him. I found the story of him and Jack Benny especially touching as Mr Benny was ack Benny was widely known as one of the nicest and most respected figures in entertainment. Offstage, he had a reputation for being generous, humble, and deeply loyal to the people he worked with. Colleagues consistently described him as easygoing and kind, especially toward younger performers. He helped launch or support the careers of many comedians and actors, often without seeking credit. One of the most telling things about Benny was how little his real personality matched his stage persona. On radio and television, he played a vain, miserly character who was obsessed with money and his age. In reality, he was the opposite. He was quietly charitable, donated significant amounts to causes he believed in, and rarely publicized it. He also treated his cast and crew extremely well. His long-running radio and TV shows had remarkably stable casts, which says a lot in an industry known for turnover. People stayed because they respected him and enjoyed working with him. In short, Jack Benny’s reputation as a “nice man” is well earned. He was professional, generous, and genuinely well liked both personally and professionally. Great to Wayne when he was young and stood up for him against one of the big casinos. The co host of the show turns out to be his wife Kathleen McCrone, for over 30 years. And their chemistry was in full swing. We enjoyed the show and loved how the croud responded to him and in this intimate setting was especially enjoyable. The ponte vedra concet hall gets a 5 star rating with us and we are looking forward to attending more event there in the future. Wayne Newton is still amazing at 84 years old. The fact that he started performing at such a young age and self taught on numerous instruments is remarkable. If yu have the opportunity to see this show we highly recommend it, seeing the living legand is fantastic but hearing the stories and watching the video clips makes the show more than just a concert but a true event to be remembered As I write this several weeks later I remember the stories like I heard them yesterday. One of my favorites was how he was working 6 show a day in vegas and would then drive to LA for rehearsals for the Dean Martin special and not once did dean every show up for rehrsal so on the night of show Wayne decided to prank his during the performatce. Another funny story was when he was filming Vegas Vacation with Chevy Chase and he was out with Chevys wife and gave her a gift, in the script it was supposed to be a Wayne Newton key chain but instead he cut a lock of his hair and gave that to her. He is a all around great performaer and I look forward to seeing him again
